Pottery Barn Copycat!

I have been on the hunt to replace these

two light fixtures in my kitchen since we moved in 3 years ago.

When I spotted this chandelier at Pottery Barn I wanted it!!!  But I had a problem…I needed 2 and they were $199 each!  So I decided I would try to replicate the chandy myself.  Here is what I started with.  They were majorly ugly but the price was right at $5 each at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Sorry the picture is sideways I tried to fix it but it wouldn’t save.  GRR!

Anyways……I started by removing that star thing and then I went to my trusty old best friend, spray paint.

For the vine type things I just used green floral wire and spray painted it also.

After both were dry I just twisted the floral wire onto the chandy like so.

Then for the buds I attached clear beads to the wire.

Now drum roll please………………

The $15 dollar chandelier.

This weekend I went to yard sales with one of my friends.   When we got to one sale I saw this chandelier and knew it would work perfectly in my parents lodge style house they are redoing.   So I bought it and thought if they can’t use it well then it was only $15 anyways. It just needs to be cleaned up a little.

Light

So I took a picture of it and sent it to flickr from my phone then called my mom at work to tell her to get on there to look at it and call me back to tell me if she likes it.

When she called me back she said that was the exact same chandelier that she bought brand new at Lowe’s for her house. She paid $150+ for it new. Well now she has two!

New Hair!

I need to get on the ball with keeping up with my blog! Not much is new around here. Although I finally got around to painting some canisters that I have had for a few months.

Happy Handmade Holidays!

This year we are spending less on buying Christmas gifts and I am making the majority of our gifts. cough*We are saving to start a family!!!!!*cough SQUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEE!

So anyways I put these cute little musical trees together in one evening. They turned out so cute! I want a whole forest of them. I think they will make a perfect gift!

You can’t really tell in the picture but they also have glitter on them. I love glitter. It is amazing how such a small thing can add so much.

Also I got the music at the thrift store for 50 cents! Wooo hooo! Saving more money!

Royal Haeger, U.S.A.

Before/After Owl

Well it is just my luck…

I found this “Owl Planter” at a second hand shop today for $8. So I brought it home and painted it up to be cuter. After painting it I turn it over to see that it has a stamp on the bottom that says “Royal Haeger, U.S.A.” so I decided to look it up online to maybe see if it was worth anything.

Turns out it is a rare piece and is listed in “Haeger Potteries through the years” valued at $100+.

Lesson learned. Always look it up before I paint it!

Although it’s super cute now. It is probably worth nothing.

Pure Luck!

Last week I stopped in an Antique Store located in Arkansas City, KS. You would not believe the amount of stuff in this store ladies! It is so full that there is only a walking path through it. Major hoarder situation there. But when you walk in the store you do feel like you have struck pure gold! I made my way through all the fiestaware, vintage christmas bulbs, marbles, cute blue birdcages and found myself searching through piles and piles and piles of fabric in a far right corner of the store.

After digging a bit I found this!
Thrift Shop Score!

There is a whole bolt of it for only $22! It was $22 for the entire bolt! I think it looks a little like AmyButler. I’m not sure what I am going to do with a whole bolt of it but I love it!

I also found these there too…

I’m going back sometime this weekend and I am taking my camera! You guys will not believe your eyes on how much stuff is in this store! I wonder if the lady will let me work there? That would be heaven! I would be digging through the stuff ALL DAY!

Is there anything that you want me to look for? I would be more than happy to do so!

I have been a busy little bee lately. I am in the process of painting my bedroom, I am 99.9% done. I still have to finish painting my bed and then hang a few more things on the wall.

School days

It is that time of year again for school to be starting. They always say that after you are out of school you will always want to go back. But that is not the case when you are in school, you don’t want to be there.

I graduated from high school back in 2002 and decided then that I was so sick of school that college wasn’t for me. Lately that is not the case, I have been wanting to go to college and become something exciting. Maybe an interior designer, teacher, nurse, fabric designer…..etc. The list could go on I’m sure.

What is stopping me from going to college. Fear of failure, I think that I am too stupid to pass the classes. I’m a very shy person and I do not like the thought of going to a school where I would feel out of place and stupid. But it is a thought I will just kick around in my head for a few more years until I decide what to do.

On a much lighter note. This purse reminds me of a school girl. Maybe it is the colors or maybe it is the print. Either way I think it turned out pretty cute. I am sending it out for a swap-bot swap I was in. It is extremely late and I hope she likes it.
Purse for Jennifer

This was my first time to try this style. I should have made myself a pattern so I could get the same size again.

Here is the flower detail.

The white fabric with blue flowers came from the thrift shop. I think it is vintage and I love it!

Granny time duh duh dundt dah duh dundt

My first granny square…..

O thats right it’s not square is it?… This is what happens when you try to teach yourself how to crochet. And this…

I have no explanation for the daisy I just started twirling and whirling the yarn around the hook and out popped a daisy!Ok, ok here is the first REAL granny. Don’t look too closely because all those stitches are wrong I later found out! Umm and maybe the fact that it doesn’t lay flat I had to beat it down to take the picture.

Well here is my second attempt at a granny square………………………….

I still need lots of practice but at least they are squares now! I’m having major problems ending the yarn! Last Thursday Holly and I went to Goodwills in Wichita, KS! It was so fun! O and we also HAD to stop off at some fabric stores. Anyways, here is Ladybug trying out my new crocheted throw. It was a score at $3.00!

And notice here on her ear how there is a white looking tip that’s not fur. I have been painting and looks like she was somewhere she shouldn’t have been!
